BIOGRAPHy

When I started painting after many years, my first subjects were pets. I am moved by the special bond that pets have with their human families. I tend to focus on the eyes of the subject I paint- they show so much emotion. My latest interest is painting landscapes in natural settings. The majesty and fragility of Nature is humbling. What an experience to to take in the vastness of a mountain or an ocean, or to come across a creature in the wild. I use the photos I take on trips to National Parks and Recreation areas, seashores as a reference to create my landscapes.

The photo reference for this painting was taken at the Wilds, a refuge and research center for endangered species, located near Zanesville, Ohio. Cheetahs are endangered in their natural habitat for many reasons, not the least of which is illegal hunting, and habitat loss. Young cheetahs are vulnerable as prey for other animals as well. It is estimated that only one in three kittens make it to adulthood. Efforts to save these beautiful cats through conservation strategies and raising awareness in facilities like the Wilds could facilitate reintroduction in certain habitats.
